On Lookout

A Cedar Waxwing (Bombycilla cedrorum) camoflaging in the leaves keeping and eye out for predators.

Alright Ladies, Right Foot Please

What’s the odds? Seven Canada Geese (Branta canadensis) all standing on one leg! And Six out of Seven are standing on their left! One thinks of things like this when retired!

Who, Who are you!

I have two blogs I post to every day.  I usually have a different shot for each blog.  Today I’m using the same image.  A adult Barred Owl (Strix varia) came out to visit us along the edge of the trail on our afternoon hike. We heard that it was in the area, and we very lucky to see it! I’m pleased as it’s a lifer for me!

Flicker

DSCN0190.jpg

Here’s a close up portrait of a Red-shafted Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus) busy at a Suet feeder in our yard. This is a male as you can tell by the Red on his neck. The female has no red.

Welcome Back

IMG_6122.jpg

If you didn’t know, Hummingbirds are my all time favourites! I have a huge passion for birds, but Hummers are on the top of the list. We had Anna’s Hummingbirds ( Calypte anna) us all winter. We fed them and gave them a dry place to perch. This little guy is the first of the Rufous Hummingbirds (Selasphorus rufus)we have seen this year in our yard. Or anywhere else for that matter. I look into his eyes and wonder where he was all winter. Anyway, welcome back Mr. Rufous!

I posted another shot of this bird on my other blog, because I know Ruth will see them both, and I was so happy to see this little guy!  He’s my hero of the day!

By the way, here’s the address of my other blog,  come on over and have a look:
